What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a series of gently cross-fibre massage moves, placed strategically around the body.  It is different to other forms of massage as it does not require oil and can be done over light clothing.  Several short rest periods may be included.

These moves are designed to help your specific problem by working with the fascia of the body.

Fascia is a membrane that lines or covers every muscle fibre, organ and cavity in our body (just like the shiny membrane on a piece of chicken breast).  This membrane is continuos throughout the body and prevents friction between various muscle fibres and organs, as well as help toxin elimination and water distribution.

Injury, trauma, dehydration and many other forms of stress will impair the functioning of the fascia.  Different layers of fascia can stick together or get “glued”, which can create friction, toxin build-up and eventually pain and discomfort.

Bowen Therapy is designed to free up “glued” fascia, thereby improving the distribution of water and initiating the body’s own healing resources. Hence we can operate better, faster and have less need to compensate.

Bowen Therapy can be used by any age group – from babies to the elderly.  It works fantastically in conjunction with Kinesiology and CranioSacral Therapy.
